openSUSE 11.1 - multimedia problems

Straight after installation, I had trouble playing sound and video files and it transires that openSUSE 11.1 doesn't install the necessary packages by default, as it has done in previous versions.

There is no Mplayer, RealPlayer and so on.

What to do?

Install them of course. How, I hear you ask?

You need to open Yast, the Administrators tool, and in the software section, select software repositories, and ensure the commercial repositories VideoLan and Packman are checked.

Look in the Install Software window and you should see some more packages to choose from and install, in the Mulimedia section.

My preference then, having finished with those repositories, would be to uncheck them from the list of available repositores.

Sometimes things don't always work straight out of the box in linux, but with a bit of tweaking they can be made to work.
